A member of Michigan Tech's prize-winning 2008 Applied Portfolio Management Program investment team was featured Monday, Aug. 25, on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street."
Tony Hellenbrand, a senior majoring in business administration, was interviewed on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange during the second half of the 9-11 a.m. show, aired locally on Charter cable channel 46.
The University's Applied Portfolio Management Program (APMP) attracted the attention of "Squawk" after winning the Redefining Investment Strategy Education (RISE) Forum in the value category for the second year in a row. Student teams from 267 colleges and universities were judged on the earnings from their investments; Tech's group earned 13 percent in a very bearish climate.
RISE is held annually at the University of Dayton and attracts entrants from more than 50 countries. The 2008 win was the third for Michigan Tech in the past eight years.
APMP is a year-long course taught by Associate Professor Dean Johnson (SBE), with a select group of students managing a $1-million pool of funds provided by private donors.
